There actually should not be much water pressure along the axis of the periscope - most of it would be trying to compress the scope inwards towards its axis.
But the word around here is: 1) You would historically be limited to speeds under like 5 knots or it could break off/bend your periscope. 2) You could not see far underwater through the periscope. 3) The seals, while fine when operating statically at depth, would probably not tolerate operating dynamically, that is, with the periscope moving up and down and twisting, at very much depth. |
