Great! I never sunk any big battleships. I don't have the courage to attack the taskforces, I prefer to pick on ones my own size.

When on patrol, you are supposed to be there to sink merchants, not warships, but sometimes the target is just too juicy to be overlooked.

I too am a fan of harbor raiding. The only capital ship I ever sunk (ever!) was on a type IX (in u-boat missions of course). I was in patrol close to feemantle and I did no resist to peek at the harbor. It was easy to crawl all the way to the harbor, there were DDs on it's entrance but they were too far away into the ocean that when I arrived, they were nowhere to be seen and even their sonar signatures were all but week.

And there it was, anchored, an american fleet carrier, overlaied by the silvery moon. Four hits and it was scrap. In the first explosion the airplanes flew into the air and fell on the water, it was beautiful.

Exactly right. On my previous patrols, I had sunk nothing but merchants and the occasional destroyer except for one serendipitous encounter with a Japanese light carrier inexplicably escorted by a single destroyer.

As you say though, this was too big to pass up.

I am quite certain sinking a Yamato-class battleship and a fleet carrier in one patrol is not something I will be able duplicate.

You're right, this was the first patrol I ever intentionally went after military vessels. I happened to notice the date and the location of my objective patrol and took a slight detour . It paid off big lol.
