Ok, I was looking for something different and ended up buying SH5 off Steam. The manual is pretty slim and not being one for tutorials I have jumped straight into the game. After a couple hours I have installed a few mods; New UIs 6_4_0, Real Enviornment - Revision_2, Damage assessment, Critical hit torpedos and guns and DasBoot sounds.

1. Any essential mods that I am missing? I tried the MO mod but it really killed my performance.

2. What are the caption things over crew members heads? I assume it means that I am to talk to them, but after I talk to them and exhaust all the choices the caption thing comes back.

3. Is there any way to force/use crossfire in the game? I have 2x5770 but only one card is working in game. (yes they are enabled in command center).

4. When my crew guy says "ship bearing 231" or something, is there a tool that shows the degree bearings? and if so how does it work?

5. Is there a way to run on diesel engines underwater to save battery power? For when going through the English Channel I would like to stay under water but I use up my electricity engines so fast.

6.CO2 level? what does this mean? I am guessing it is the build up in the sub, but when does it become a problem? I get a warning at 10%, but ?

7. After I have the guy use the Flack/deck guns, how can I get them back on the boat? The only way I can get them off the guns is to go underwater then resurface.

8. For whatever reason when my char is manning the deck gun he can only shoot the bullet type ammo, I try to click on the other ammo but it doesnt change (if an AI crew mans the gun he shoots the cannon type ammo though?)

9. Messages; I am assuming red messages are directed at my ship by enemy and green are from my leaders.

2: The caption is rediculous and has no purpose. To get rid of them, Download the No damned Halos, No damned Bubbles mod.

5: A Diesel engine works by combustion, which requires air. The diesels would use up air so fast that the crew would suffocate in minutes. no, you cant use them underwater. Try going at Half ahead (speed 3) or slow ahead (speed 2). it is more efficient fuel consumption and battery consumption for both diesels and batteries. OR you could run with "decks awash" at about 7-8 meters submerged to run diesels and have a low profile, giving the enemy lessof a chance to see you. Or you could run at "snorkel depth" available with TheDarkWraith's UI mod

6: CO2 levels is how much the oxygen in the sub is Carbon dioxide. After 10% it can start to, at least in theory (ive never noticed much of a difference) to decrease the ability of the crew, and supposedly "kill" at 100% although ive NEVER let it get that high.
If your surfaced and the CO2 doesnt go to 0, then save your game and reload, because it is a glitch.

7: F5 both mans and unmans the deck gun, F6 unmans/mans the flak guns. If they still appear to be on the guns after unmaning the guns, dont worry, because thats a glitch and wont affect gameplay.

8: im assuming that you mean the HE and AP rounds you can fire, but the third one you cant? that is anti aircraft ammo and isnt used in deck guns.

4: The bearing can be determined b binoculars "scroll up on mouse wheel", the UZO (On the conning tower right in front of the watch officer), or by periscopes OR by holding control and looking in the bottom left UI.

1: IRAI by theDarkWraith (someone be so kind as to put a link) is a mod that will increase the ability of destroyers to hunt you, because the unmodded SH5 AI CANT kill you unless your on the surface.
