Not that I'm a dog whisperer or anything, but all dogs have a "pack" mentality. The key to training them correctly is making them realize that you are the leader of the "pack" and you are always the leader, even when you're away. The headstrong nature you mentioned is actually what makes German Shepherds so good for training in virtually any task, as they have an almost wolf-like adherence to the pack system. People say they are "smart", but in truth they are no smarter than any other dog. They are just easier to train if you keep the above in mind. Your problem, if I may venture a guess, is that she thinks she is the "pack leader" when you are away, or even the runner-up when you are around. In the interests of not derailing this thread further, I'll say no more save that if you would like some helpful free tips on quickly training your Shepherd, I'll be happy to provide a few via PM. Ty you for the offer, USlCp, but since whe's got at best a year or so left (she's 12 now), it almost isn't worth it.
But onto a new gripe. Time Warner Cable. For the last 8 months I have complained that everytime the wind blows or a squirrel runs across the line on the pole, I lose my internet, and the TV goes all pixelated. They have been to out to the pole 6+ times over that span, and still can't fix it. Soon as I get some other things sorted out, I'm switching to ATT Uverse. |
