![]() ![]() The Museum of Civilization in the foreground, and in the background - the Canadian Parliament and other historic buildings in central Ottawa. Spent a lot of time commuting back and forth around this area when I lived in Ottawa. ![]() ![]() Also in town, the new Canadian War Museum. Really an awesome space, one of the best military history museums anywhere. The big "shard" sticking out of the building is part of a memorial arrangement that lines up to project a ray of sunlight on the original headstone of Canada's Unknown Soldier from WWI which is stored there, every year exactly at 11:11am every November 11th. |

Los Angeles has destroyed most of its older, unique archtecture in the name of development. There are a number of walking tour routes in the city that have stops where one can see the site of a building that used to be there but only lives on as a photograph on site marker. A large proportion of the remaining buildings are originally commercial buildings that have long ago seen their glory days. This building I saw for the first time many, many years ago when I first visited Los Angeles. I saw it as we were speeding along the freeway; I thought it was perhaps a civic building or cultural site; Iasked what it was and was told it was a tire factory. Now it functions as a mixed-use property, mainly as a major garment outlet store. It is called "The Citadel" and is made to resemble an Assyrian Palace in design.
![]() The building is immense and the facade extends over 1,700 feet. |

That's the old Firestone building. Seems to me that it use to say "Firestone Tire and Rubber Co." on it some place. Long time ago.
