Played it for 2-3 years when it first came out, then shelved it until 2 months ago. You really do need a fair bit of spare time to play the sim. Didn't have time when starting up a business.
The happy times were when I didn't have to worry about much else. I remember the times well, a nice relaxed evening patrolling the oceans, and a couple of glasses of port on a cold winters night (get the port on the return to base journey in 1x), and bring the sub in nice and smooth into the dock.

These days it's a couple of rough bourbons/rum/scotch and a quick high TC dash before reality or sleep calls.

Even now I may have a few spare hours to waste my time on forums, but I don't have the time to really get into the sim, so I dare not start it as I want to be in bed before 4am

I've been playing SH3 for a few months now. One of those titles that I'd see and say to myself "I need to pick that up soon."

After years of saying it, I finally turned intention into action and have had quite a bit of fun. Only played the stock game for about two days before I installed GWX..... Then came SH3 Commander... Then another mod... and another....

I admit though, that I've been playing SH:4 with Operation Monsun a lot more than SH3 as of late.

From late autumn/fall 2007 with three/four-month intervals from time to time. Great game, one of the best games for me, maybe the best!

From looking at the receipt, I purchased SH3 on 8 April 2005. I never installed it for more than a year though because of the problems reported about the Starforce protection. Once I did install it I've never really stopped playing it.

Since 2005.
I have discovered the GWX at 2010 and then I joined this forum.
I like very much to experiment with various mod combinations despite the CTDs.
I didn't have a stable Internet connection before 2009

I played for a year on and off when it was first released but stopped because I felt there was no real goal in playing the game.

Now with all the mods, sh3 commander and GWX, I can play a real ww2 sub game!!!

I bought sh5, but came back here. It needs lot's of work from modder's still before I immerse myself into it.

You've got a lot of company there...

Seems like scads of people are waiting for it to become 'playable.'

Around the end of 2007, or start of 2008. Best guesstimation.
