I tried playing SH4 using my gaming laptop's HDMI output to our 58" Panasonic plasma tv, and after about 5 minutes the game basically crashes, causing the computer to hibernate.
This behavior s VERY repeatable, has now happened the 3 times I tried it. Computer is an Asus UL80Vt-A1 with NVidia G210M Graphics (512MB DDR3) running Windows 7 Home, TV is a Panasonic plasma (not 120Hz or 1080P, actually 1280 x 720 pixels). My laptop display is 1366 x 768 and that is what SH4 is normally set to. When I plug in the HDMI cable the computer recognizes the TV and graphics for regular computer use are fine. SH4's graphics options do not have a 1280 x 720 option or even anything close. What should I use? Anyone have any idea what might resolve the problem? |

I hope you're not placing your laptop too close to the TV, or on top of it (gets hot). Also, I think TVs give off electromagnetic waves. Not good for a PC hard drive. Trying checking your system temperature while running it on your TV screen.

I'm just taking a guess here since I had some screen resolution problems myself and this seems to be a safe setting. Try 1600X900. See if that works.

Do you have a VGA input on the back of your tv? I use a 32 inch HDTV as my computer monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter. I get a resolution of 1920x1080 around 60-65hz refresh in SH4, and excellent framerates.
I skipped the whole HDMI dilemma when I was having problems. |

Well, I was referring to the HD screen for my PC (25" wide screen) which also (says) that it's native resolution is 1920X1080. However, if I try to run the game at that resolution, the game itself runs fine but I can't take any screenshots unless I set the resolution to 1600X900. Why? I don't know but the game still looks great at 1600X900 so that's what I leave my resolution at. It was just a shot in the dark and I wasn't even sure if that resolution would work on your TV or not.
As far as TV, well, I have 3 wide screens the biggest is 53" and not HD compatible. The others are 37" and 32" and are HD screens though, with my large PC screen, never had the need to run SHIV on any of my TVs.
