I'm trying to skin the Yamato so that it looks slightly more historically accurate, but I need to edit its texture map for this.
What I'm trying to do is replace the aft section (inside the red square) with metal plating instead of wood. This is what the Yamato looks like at the moment: ![]() |

You would need to redo the UV's on the 3D model to change just that section.
SH4 Units don't use a different texture for the decks. Change that part of the dds file? The whole deck gets changed. |

Yeah, that's what I thought after looking at the DDS file. What tool should I use for editing the UV mapping? Also I'd appreciate if you could link me to a tutorial or something that explains how I can go about doing this.

It all depends on your abilities with 3D programs Mate.
It is pretty simple if you have worked with 3D programs. It can be a bear if not and you have to learn from scratch. I'd suggest Misfit 3D for a free 3D modeling program. You would export the Model with S3D. Import to Misfit and edit the UV's in it. It looks and sound hard until you do it a few times. But it becomes very easy after a few WTF's? PM me if you need further help. I'm always wasteing time here at SubSim anyway. ![]() And I'd rather you learn to do it then me doing it. ![]() |

Thanks. I haven't worked with 3D programs before, but hopefully I'll be able to pick it up quickly. I'll post here later today if/when there's any progress.
Oh and by the way, which file should I be exporting with S3D? Is it the DAT? |

Yes it's the dat file you want.
Export the main hull object. You will work on the base .obj file. Don't worry about the uv2 file. When you import again with S3D? Import with the original uv2 file. This keeps the AO stuff intact. Now, You'll need to do a texture for the section you've edited. (Unless there's a section in the original dds file you like) And adjustments to the dat wiould need to be done. Again, I can guide you through this by PM if needed. ![]() |

Ok, so I've edited the UV map and this is what I got.
Before: http://i56.tinypic.com/24fhbp1.jpg After: http://i56.tinypic.com/24xp1tw.jpg As you can see, I've done what I wanted to do, but now the textures on the ship seem a lot darker for some reason. Does anyone know what's causing this? All I did was open up the DAT file, export the model as OBJ and then import it back into the DAT after editing. The rest of the files are untouched. |
