TBH, the experience of your crew and your amount of renown you have, have very little effect on whether you live or die.

Sure, a fully experienced crew makes your job easier, as they do everything better, and faster, but you're still running the boat. It's your decisions that put the boat into the situations that you find yourself.

Run Flank speed at 100m depth with 4 destroyers chasing you? Sure, go ahead, but don't blame the new guy in the crew.

And you can't account for pure dumb luck, like getting run over by a destroyer in a zero visibility storm.

Short of modding the hell out of the boat itself, so it flies, shoots nuclear eels, and makes a mean latte; the game is about your decisions, not the mechanics of the system.

I've found that a J class can ram be at 34knts in a full storm, and i don't even take 1% hull dammage, but the warship blows up, splits, blows up again, then sinks, hits me, and i die.....

That is an old stock issue that has since been rectified in some of the supermods....certainly in GWX anyway.

Would you guys consider using the 'all weather guns' mod cheating? I'm thinking of downloading it. On the one hand I like the fact that you can't use your guns in rough weather, but I get pissed when I see merchants CAN use their guns in a storm.

Imagine trying to do some complex task while skateboarding on a cobbled street in a rainstorm.

Now do that same task, on the same road, while riding a bus.

That's why ships can fire and subs can't.

Even in moderate weather where I could get the gun crew on deck, but the waves were rolling pretty decent, or at least in a harmonic with the boats motion, accuracy was almost nil. Some shots would sail 100's of m's over the ship, while others would plunk just a few meters from the u-boat.

But the ability to use the Flak guns in all weather is a different story. Especially for the guns up on the Turm. I recently sank a sloop with my flak gun in my IIa, then a day later, encountered another sloop, but in bad weather. So I rammed it. I didn't get credit because the wave action of pushing it under sank it. .

But another thing a lot of players do is if they can't get gun crews on deck, they won't reload externals.

They're alot higher out of the water than us.

You can read and listen to all the advice and opinions in the world but the bottom line is...play the game the way you feel it gives you the most enjoyment.

When I created the all weather guns mod it was with the sole intention of giving those who weren't happy with the games constraints an alternative option.

It probably would have been better had the game come with all weather guns as a realism gameplay option.

The downside is that if the gun crew can shoot, no crew member will wear foul-weather gear. The two are tied together. I have my storm conditions set for 11, just so I can use the flak guns (which I never do anyway, but that's just me), but I never have them man the deck gun when I can see water washing over the deck.

Yeah, I tried playing with the mod but indeed, when the weather is bad they're just standing there with their shirts like we're already sailing from Penang lol.
It didn't feel realistic enough for me so that mod has gotta go then.
Also, I guess you're right, it's much easier to fire a gun from a large steady ship than from a rocking and rolling U-boat. Didn't think of that. So now I can't fire my guns in a storm, but at least this explanation took my frustration away

Actually I agree with everything you say there.
