Would be nice if this would take off (pardon the pun), and be successful.

I hope they have better luck than England had in the past with Airships. Google R-101. Government meddling at it's best.

Years ago I read this feasibility study on airships and the niche they might occupy in our economy (pdf linked):
http://journals.oregondigital.org/tr...ewFile/806/701 I, too, want to believe airships will make a comeback. Some of us wouldn't mind a more leisurely trip if it also means more space & comfort.

Im just thinking of the next blockbuster movie theme.
SKYTANIC! Well have to have some super disaster on its maiden voyage how about frozen clouds, yea yea well call them skyburgs. Skyburg ahead captian! Has a ring to it, lets go with it. Then well have it floating across the north Atlantic and other airships will send out Skyburg warnings but the captain wont heed the warnings cause his airship is un uninflatable. Next well have the front half deflate slowly after bumping a Skyburg and the weight will tear the ship into half and the back half will then sink into the sky! And the life rafts can be..... Yes I can make millions ![]() |

This will never work. I remember reading about a few pioneering airship entrepeneurs and firms almost a decade ago in Popular Science or somesuch. While airships do have some advantages in the area of heavy VTOL capability, there is absolutely no reason to ever establish any kind of anything in an area that couldn't be better served by rail or sea transport. It's just too inefficient, even by very slow, very fuel-efficient, very windblown, very vulnerable, very weak, very insurance-heavy airship.
