Those great lakes missing makes me think of another error in SH3.
The map of the Netherlands is wrong. There are two large pieces of land that didn't exist yet during WWII. It is now our twelfth province, but one piece of it was created in '42 (so that's a little hard to incorporate in the game) and another piece of land was created in the 50's. It has little impact on the game, since your U-boat will never go there, but the look of the map still annoys me. Too bad Ubi didn't do a bit more research. |

The other thing of note is that SHIII only models water that is at sea level in the real world (again, as per SRTM data). This is why the great lakes are waterless - the real things are well above sea level. It's possible to edit them in, but the editing would be a little trickier than it initially looks. You'd have to lower all the terrain around them as well and remove things like rapids and the Niagara Falls - effectively making the waterways flat. The flat water modeling does make some sense though - the game mostly takes place in the ocean... |

Thanks for the info, so that explains why it is problematic to realistically add the Great Lakes, but the pieces of land in the Netherlands I'm talking about are already below sea-level, infact, they used to be just that: sea. So just converting that wouldn't be that much of a problem. Not that it is particularly important though, just something I noticed.
