Also, does anyone remember GEM? I used on a very early PC and my Atari ST back in the mid 80's.

I still miss DOS and have a few old PC's with various flavours of it in the attic

I totally missed the ST and TT series as I was deeply involved with my XE (running SpartaDOS) learning mac65. For the PC (IBM clone) I suggest FreeDOS, it's open source and runs great outside the current MS GUI.
