Default Hunter killer Groups?

Now that I can use the Torpedos without constantly missing I am starting to sink ships which is satisfying. I am currently doing the Happy Times campaign and have had some success with a convoy around Rockall Bank. I scored 4 hits but only one sunk, managed to escape the destroyers as the sea was rough and proceeded to catch up and have another go. This time in light fog I sunk a destroyer and boy am I paying for it. I have spent three hours trying everything to shake them off but can't seem to do it. I have gone deep, 170m used all my decoys and tried sprinting away and then ascending to periscope depth to avoid asdic from distance. I thought the last tactic had worked as I got 600m away from them but they found me again even though I was on dead slow. I should have surfaced and sprinted away at full speed on the surface as the fog was hiding me that far away. Now I am back to cat and mouse at depth with 5 of the buggers hounding me with most of the day to go (9am) and a calm sea, but still light fog.. If this is a Hunter Killer group, and whats got me thinking that is the convoy still has escorts but these five don't seem to want to give up and rejoin, the game has its history wrong as they weren't formed in 1940.

How can I get away?

Sounds like you have IRAI enabled. Try to lower the mod setting, read more about in the dedicated topic.

Thanks for the reply. Yep I do have IRAI running. Can I change the mod settings whilst in a campaign or will I have to write this patrol off if I can't get away, which seems likely to be the case.

Default IRAI settings

OK, please excuse my lack of knowledge but what do I actually change in the data/scripts/AI/init.aix. to make the escorts less effective?

Do I change the non merchants settings from 1.0; to say 0.5; ?

For only the escorts you must to change non merchant

mine is like this (i was adviced by sober):

# for non-merchants
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 95;
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 100;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 90;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 95;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 95;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 100;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 90;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 95;

TDW advice is to change only the yelow lines - it is up to you

Mine looks like this it is IRAI_0_0_29 ( thanks to TDW)

# for non-merchants
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY = 1.0;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY = 1.0;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY = 1.0;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY = 1.0;
# for merchants
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY_MERCHANT = 1.0;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY_MERCHANT = 1.0;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY_MERCHANT = 1.0;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY_MERCHANT = 1.0;

So I change the values I have highlighted in red and If 1.0; is hard and 0.0; is easy then 0.5 should be ok?

you use IRAI V.29 update at IRAI v30

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...171973&page=73

you can enable over MO even you have conflicts is ok

after that your init.aix will be like mine

If you are beginer in your place i will change like this:

# for non-merchants
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 95;
VISUAL_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 100;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 80;
HYDROPHONE_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 85;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 95;
RADAR_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 100;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY_MIN = 80;
SONAR_DIFFICULTY_MAX = 85;

It is more fun because the dificulty wiil be choosed ramdomnly between these 2 val min and max

if you use init.aix setted at 0.5 it is to low and it is like you better not need to install (you lose the fun of the game)

salute

Ok downloaded and installed IRAI 0_0_30 and have changed the values for those two settings to min 50 max 75. I'll see how it goes. Thank you for your help.

Edit: It worked, I got away

Default Update

As I have said , the editing solution worked and I got away. I returned to base and docked but when I started a new mission I experienced two CTD's for no obvious reason. After the second I gave up and watched some TV. Is it possible that by editing the init.aix file in IRAI to the values that I have stated, I am causing CDT's?

I do not think so. I changed like hunderd times init.aix for testing and never had a single CTD

I restarted the mission from the sub pens and have had no problems so it was probably hard disk activity causing the ctd's. My Dell xps630 is a right pain for unexplained disk activity.
