You can lock on using space or right button on the scope.
As the mod currently stands you can't use it in arcade mode (Shoot by numbers) will look into changing this. You can confirm your locked on be the Recognition manual - if your locked on you can scroll thru the ship selections, if no lock than no ships display  .
