Default Captain's log (Career history) dates bug.

While in a patrol the captain's log dates are correct, but once i check the career history all the dates are the date of the patrol start.
I checked CareerTrack.upc - also only one date for all the sunk ships and aircrafts. Have someone faced the same problem?
Any solution? I think I could fix the dates manually in CareerTrack.upc but that's time consuming.

Mine show up correctly on the dates killed, dates are various, so either a patch or mod solved it.

What version are you playing? The most current patch is 1.5 known as SH4Uboats, but for SH4 alone it's 1.4

Mine is U-boat missions 1.5 too. And the only change I made to it so far is removing bathtub from Tambor and Gar deck.

I think I get the same thing. I have v1.5, RFB/RSRDC plus.........
I didn't pay much attention; just figured it was another example of UBI-excellence.

Ahem, that would be the Subsim community in general.

It's not that whoever tested it didn't find the issue. It's that for whatever reason, they (ubisoft and/or developers) chose not to fix it.

I'm not sure what causes the bug. I *think* it might be related to crossing the International Date Line. Though im not sure. If you patrol out of Pearl, your crossing the IDL reguarlly. If out of australia, you'll probably rarely, to never cross it. (ingame, the IDL is about 200 to 300 KM West of midway if i remember correctly.)

I have looked into it before, the game keeps an ongoing temporary log in mid patrol, properly noting times and dates. The trouble occurs when it goes to write this data to your save game file upon returning from patrol.

Default Can it be hand corrected in port?

Can it be hand corrected in port?

Save the game just before you return to port (Pearl) and all data is correct.
SaveData.clg is where the boats sunk log is before returning to port.
After you RTB this data is deleted from this file.

Can you hand correct the data in the CareerTrack.upc file from the clg file data:

It looks like just the dates need correcting. Is that right?

Example:
========================= SaveData.clg: ==============
[Log Entry 0]
Type=0
EntryText=Long 136° 43' E, Lat 12° 06' N|Ship sunk! Shokaku Fleet Carrier, 28000 tons

Date=19440619

[Log Entry 1]

EntryText=Long 137° 53' E, Lat 12° 14' N|Ship sunk! Taiho Fleet Carrier, 35000 tons

I'll let you know at the end of my next patrol unless Ducimus knows... and tells, if it works.... lol

Happy Hunting!

I *think* i did try hand correcting it - successfully. It was awhile ago, so i could be not remembering correctly if I was successful or not. (you picked the file particulars out just as i remember them BTW) But I vaguely recall hand editing it and having an "Ah HA!" moment. (I've had a number of those). I think i abandoned it because the idea of hand editing those logs every freaking patrol was a major turn off, and its impossible to expect the end user to do the same. Need a 3rd party app here me thinks.

edit:

Actually, im sure you can hand edit it now. I remember i was going to use this as a springboard to get back into programming. I did have the idea to write an app to do this in C++, to get my hands into coding again, but i had enough on my plate with TMO at the time, and all desire to code quickly left me.

Wow! I was going to post this very same question. Now that you mention it, Ducimus, I didn't notice this happening until I took command of a new build and had my home port switched from Brisbane to Pearl.

You must be right. There are so many of these bugs, they must have been aware of them.

What really bothers me, is that things that were well modeled in SHCE, were dropped or messed up in SH4. One expects a 4th generation product to be superior to a 1st generation product, but strip away the eye-candy and it's hard to see much improvement.

I have never been near Midway or Pearl, still have the problem.

I'm not going to worry about this problem; there are so many bigger/worse/more significant problems to worry about.

Different developers me thinks. SH1 was by SSI originally. SH4, is at its core, a highly modified version of SH3. It can legitimately be said that SH4 is a supermod of SH3.

There goes that theory.

That's exactly what I said to myself as well.

To be fair SSI made SH1 SHCE and I believe SH2, not UBI, however in my opinion someone on the Dev team should have been real familiar with SHCE and been able to provide input to the other team members working on SH4.

The SHCE TDC was great and like you said so many other good things were dropped or messed up. I am very pleased with the outstanding work that the SH4 modders like Ducimus have done to improve things.

My install is performing almost like SHCE with SH4 graphics! I'll never get the DD's like I want 'em though.

Happy Hunting!

Nisgeis is among the names I have tattooed on my arm; he has been so knowledgeable and helpful about so many things. Sorry, I didn't mean to single you out.

Happy Hunting!
