It does come in handy, better with the radar fix by tater, but it'll show you what ships have radar so try to plot as far from them as you can. One thing that helps is going decks awash with engines running, this will put you lower, as the radar has a height setting..lower in the water is better. I can still pull off 12 kts on the surface this way. If the capital ship vectors in escorts by radar, I'll go down a few feet to cut the electrics on, that way the game see's you as submerged and often they lose contact, just haul arse if they keep coming. The good thing is you can use it to your advantage, if you get far enough away the escorts will search where they last had you leaving a flank wide open for you to attack the group. Need to get about 3000 yards away from where they come to search or they may get you, so keep on the speed.
Yeah, I installed it a couple of patrols ago. I just don't know how to use it yet or what to look for as far as operational effectiveness is concerned. Will it show which ships have radar on the PPI?

okay. I have that mod.

re the destroyers from rabul to guadalcanal, I saw some of those TF. I was afraid to get too close for two reasons. 1. Not a lot of tonnage. 2. If one dd in TMO is bad (dangerous), the 7 dds has to be TERRIBLE (a disaster waiting to happen.)

I don't think that is any mod.. I play stock 1.4 without any mods and your description is pretty much exactly what I have

Got assed up to find a picture:

This is stock Porpoise periscope

Somehow I'm pretty sure that Tambor has green one... As it's the boat I've lately been driving.. Not sure though but green sounds somehow familiar.. Though now when I think about it, it would be weird to create different coloured persicopes for different ships...

I ran into a few of these DD TFs making the run down the slot. I have found in my encounters, that these particular TFs don't (appear) to put as much time and effort into hunting you. It seems (to me anyway) that their priority is to get to their destination. I couldn't get any further than sinking the lead DD though as they were moving too fast and would zig immediately after the first DD was hit.

Saw you guys mentioning the radar countmeasures. The APR-1.This simply shows as a contact line on the map when enemy radar is present.Sometimes your crew will advise "detecting radar signals!" you usually pick up th esignals at 15-20 miles I believe.Looks like the sonar contact lines but youll get it when way out of range of passive sonar and itll blink a lot more.Really great tool to help plan attacks.
