I was watching a cop show once, and as they looked at a corpse one of the fictional cops says "That was no .38. That was a .357 magnum. Look at that hole!"

My first thought was "Yep. That hole sure looks faster to me."

On the other hand, a quick look at Navweaps confirms that all Japanese 8" guns of WW2 were /50 caliber.

I've never used any of the surface ship mods. I think there might be a problem if another BB hits you with it's main batteries and you see no damage. I'm not sure you should expect much if it's hit by another BBs 6" casemates or a 5" DD shell. Battleship armor was pretty thick, depending on where the hits are occurring.

Thats pretty severe looking damage in your sub I just hate when they hit the fore.. Because then you have to reverse in case you aren't interested in crash-diving all the time without orders..

And nice find RR

I once had 95% hull damage. It was after my second war patrol, where I had gotten incredibly lucky stumbling into several unescorted convoys and racked up 40,000 tons in one outing (I extended it a bit with resupplies, but still). I play with external camera views off for realism, so I couldn't really see much damage.

I did get the Medal of Honor for my exploits
