Default Jackpot!

I snuck into Truk in March '42 and what a find. Looks like an entire TF inside, fleet carrier, Ise BB, 6 cruisers. Should be fun!!

heads up! March 1944 Osaka. 4 Hiryu Fleet Carriers, 2 Kongo Battleships, 1 Fuso Battleship. 2 Mogami Heavy Cruisers. Feast your logbook when you get there...

Regards

Yeah, I hit paydirt there once too. Entered from the SW and only saw a half dozen merchants at first. Sank those and only had about half my complement of torps left. That's when I found the Y, 2 Hiryus, 2 Kongos, an Ise and an assortment of other warships docked further in. That's also the first time I experienced CTDs that were graphic related, and not due to the DD graveyard effect. I still have the SS somewhere.
Good luck mate.

Sorry for going OT, but that scenario might very well have been SHIV running out of memory due to it's tiny overhead.
Could be very interesting to see what effect the LAA switch would have...

Now the raid! I don't see the name of Lt. Renesisfurys boat, but...

I am piloting the USS Gar, second patrol out of Pearl. Has anyone ever done a harbor attack at Truk and then just gone to ground? Just hide submerged until your tubes are loaded, then make a second attack and leave?

Sounds like a bad revenue for the US taxpayers...

That sounds most unlikely!

Bagged the carrier, a heavy cruiser and 2 light cruisers and exited without a scratch. I was setting a course to get out when the second light cruiser just wouldn't stop shooting at me, so he got the last 2 fore tubes that I was going to have for a while.

Default try this

Truk, eatern entrance. Sunk 3 or 4 merchants. My boat was spotted and depth charged, so it ran to the Jap port to the north and moored in a boat slip. The dds tried but could not damage my boat due to the quay wall. And one of their depth charges sunk one of their own boats. I waited until they gave up and sailed off. However, I was out of topredoes. I managed to get away the next day. If I had not exhausted my supply of torpedoes, I would have been well inside Truk with free reign to take care of buiness.

Now that's the kind of evasion I like to hear. I read this account once before. That was a clever idea and a tactic I must remember.

Default My crew thought I was nuts

The one think I forgot to mention was that I requested the cook to go ashore and ask the harbor master to send the crew sushi dinners and ear plugs. No dignified submariner wants to dine with depth charge explosions ringing in their ears.

Since I exited in one piece and have several fish left, I am going to submerge by the NE entrance all day, and see who is left the next day. Hopefully I can hang the broom from my conning tower.

Ok, new patrol and I am back. There is something odd happening in Truk, I torpedoed and sank a cruiser an carrier, but none of the other anchored ships have shown any sign of life. Is that normal for harbor attacks?
