I've just been reading about this.

I don't know whats more incredible; that it was actually built, or that it was built by the French?

If you decide to rename it (being under British management), I have a suggestion:

The British already have one.

Just FYI, you've created a monster. I ran into a largish convoy North of Manila, and decided to take it on. I was able to sink the Fubuki class and the three minelayers that protected it with barely a scratch. I then proceeded to put all but 6 ships of the convoy on the bottom in about two hours, and those 6 only survived because they were fishing boats that weren't worth a 203mm shell. 400 shells in exchange for 23 ships and 108,000 tons on the sea bottom before I even reached my first patrol area.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone found data for the guns?
8 in. guns on a sub is really amazing.

In RL she had no radar... but I guess she could've gotten one from the americans had she not been sunk before entering the Panama canal..

I'd say the main problem with her right now is that the main guns reload waaay too quickly. I'm able to put about 8 salvos downrange in a minute, which is double what even the CAs mounting the same guns could manage. The second problem is she submerges very quickly. Like, Type VII u-boat quickly. Given how long it take a US fleet sub to submerge early in the war, the Surcouf's dive time is ridiculous. Apart from that, she seems to eat through the batteries while taking forever to recharge them, but I'm guessing that's probably realistic.

Edit: I just thought of something else. While at periscope depth minesweepers and the like will not cross over the Surcouf to drop depth charges. They begin acting like they're about to collide with another AI ship and will just jet forwards and backwards. I don't know if Destroyers act the same way because honestly, I don't want to be anywhere near periscope depth with a DD bearing down on me.

I came accross this link:

http://www.avalanchepress.com/Surcouf.php

I thought is was rather interesting. Among other things, it says the turret was watertight! I had assumed it was free-flooding.

BTW, in your model can the guns fire seperately? In RL, they would usually fire one at a time.
