Default Thank you sirs

The multi link is appreciated too. Did the convoy stalking tutorial. Exciting!
My goal is to try out night surface attacks as per Night Raider of the Atlantic....

I am going to punt on doing torpedo calculations right now. My thought is to pay U-Boat Commander right now.. is it right to think the commander would not be doing the targeting computer but rather picking target?

Depends.

For submerged attacks, the commander would be at the periscope, calling out the relevant numbers (range, speed, AOB, running depth for eels, etc.) and those would be fed into the system.

For surface attacks, typically the 1WO (first officer, US equiv would be XO) would be at the UZO focusing on the targets and calling out that stuff while the commander remained in charge of the overall tactical situation.

The Captain looks through the periscope and the Exec reads the stadimeter and notes the bearing. The Captain focuses the periscope and the Exec notes the range. Together they double-check the calculations. While the Captain does have help, everything depends on him using the periscope properly. If he has the wrong settings then the calculations will be wrong no matter who does them.

The targeting computer is like a modern computer - Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Default Captain's Part

Thanks folks. For surface attacks I won't feel bad then using 'assist'. Eventually I'll try to learn to use the 'computer' for submerged attacks.

I use WE Assistance for everything. I dislike that he's so perfect, but I just can't get manual targeting.

And thank you for posting. That may sound silly on the face of it, but you'd be amazed at how many post that one greeting and are never heard from again. We appreciate everyone who actually gets involved.
