Default What TC do you guys use??

I saw this for the Devils of the Deep that their max Time Compression allowed was 128, Im just curious on what TC you all allow yourself to use as max??

And while we're at it, what other quirky odd things do you do when on patrol?? Ie. filing real hardcopy patrol reports, keeping a log, having the significant other open all windows in winter and splash ice cold salt water on you as you ride through a terrible storm!!

Yep, you won't even know if it is a Sunderland or Catalina at x8192

Especially when you leave from France in '43

Numerous threads on this before, but it's a tough one to search for.

If there's a decent chance of an air patrol finding me, then I will rarely go above 256 or 512. If there's a good chance (Biscay, Gibraltar, Near the Isles at all), I don't go above 128.

Problem is, if you go above 128, as has been mentioned before, the computer takes 1 tick to react to the warning, and the time elapsed is huge in that 1 tick. At 512, thats almost 8 minutes game time your behind. If that's a plane your spotting 8 minutes to, he's probably well into a bombing run, if he hasn't already done one. The math may be off some, but the concept is sound.

If I'm going on a long distance cruise in the middle of nowhere, then higher TC is ok IMO. Going from Europe to the Caribbean is a looooong and boring journey at 128, so I will crank it up into the 1k, 2k range for those trips, sometimes even faster.

If you use SHC, you can adjust what TC the game drops down to when an enemy is detected, I just leave mine at the 1/8 for planes/ships.

x128 for normal operation, and up to x1024 if I'm in a real hurry to get somewhere.

1024 for crossing oceans and seas - at this speed i check with watch officer every 2-3 seconds....you never know!!

have lost a very good crew coming in close to land, to port, at 1024 and was sunk by mine sweeper....never again!! (DiD)

128 or 256 in enemy controlled waters, 512 in friendly areas (east of Denmark while exiting Kiel, for example).

As for other "quirky odd things" - I used to keep the "score" for all crew members: I noted a point next to crewman's name every time he's done something worth rewarding: spotted a plane in time, warned me of an enemy destroyer, fixed dangerous damage, kept machines running when all other sailors in the room passed out, etc. Upon returning to base I used this score to decide who gets the most tasty medals.

Not more than 128, generally, or less

Usually 128, if nagged by the wife (too long playing) I'll go 256 and mid atlantic I'll go 1024 (I'm still early '40)

As above but another reason for not exceeding x128 if possible is because it is strongly suspected that some air units don't get launched and or rendered by what is now quite an old game engine.
