Another Silent Hunter CTD

Hello guys,

I recently got a new PC specs are as follows:

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t processor, MMX, 3Dnow (6CPUS), ~2.8GHz
3326MB RAM (actually 8 but xp 32 only reads that amount)
Direct x Version 9.0c
XP Home Edition (5.1 Build 2600)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SE (1024.0 MB)

Plug and Play Monitor - 1280 x 1024 32 nit 60Hz

My problem is Silent Hunter will not get past the ubisoft opening movie (or the GWX wolf logo if that is installed) it will play the movie but will then display the standard send error report message.

I have a tried a few soloutions to the problem so far that i have found searching the forum:

1: Changing the resoloution on both the monitor and in the Main file in silent hunter folder.

2: Updating video drivers.

Not had much sucess however and i will try just about anything at this point.

Any help would be much appreciated thank you!

Are you experiencing a CTD on first bootup?

Do you have any mods installed at this point?

Is your game patched to 1.4b or perhaps already patched?

Not entirely sure what you mean but it has crashed consistantly after the ubi logo, but sometimes it wont even show that.

Do you have any mods installed at this point?
No mods installed, i completely removed the game including registry using Ccleaner before doing a clean install and adding the patch. I have tried it with no patches installed as well and no luck.

Is your game patched to 1.4b or perhaps already patched?
Yes game is patched to 1.4b which i had to download, this is a retail copy bought a few months after the game came out.

I have tried it with or without the starforce fix and no CD patch with no luck.

Uninstall again (I know....a PITA), delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs and use the free trial period version of the programme below then re-install.

It definitely sounds like you have a residual content still in your system.

I did as you requested but it has not worked, I dont even get the ubi logo now, although it seems to be random whether i see it or not each time i uninstall reinstall.

Maybe this works,

Delete the movies from sh3/data/ movies/ intro

How reads the error?

Where is the best place to see the error report? i looked in the main folders to see if it produced an error report txt doc but nothing, the send error report default message?

This looks like it is a driver confilct with my graphics card.

I cant run SH3, MTW2 puzzle quest 2 or blood bowl, but it will run STALKER, MSTS, FM2011.

The games that wont run display the same behavior, either CTD qucikly after opening logos with no error or same thing but with the send error report screen.

Not sure how to resolve this issue as the nvidia drivers are the most recent, this issue is probably beyond the scope of this forum if that is the case.

for example version, 260.89.

When you search the 2 intro files in your windows explorer and
click on it, do you get the movie or?

I can play the movies fine in windows media player.

I shall try an earlier version of the drivers as you suggested as that is probably my best shot.
