Default British Ships "Neutral" in December '41????

Greetings all...and a Happy New Year!!

I started a new career and took my boat out on it's shakedown out of Lorient. I was a couple days from home when I came across a lone freighter. So, eager for an easy kill I snuck in and picked out the British flag waving in the breeze.

At that point I sent two eels her way. One missed and the other caught her slighty forward of her screws. I finished her off with the deck gun then sailed home to Lorient.

When I ended the patrol it said that I sank a "NEUTRAL"!! How's a BRITISH coastal freighter neutral in December of '41????

I noticed that all cargo ships are "neutral" on the post-patrol screen. I think the "allied ships sunk" only counts for warships. Not sure, though...

Are you sure she was British because there are one or two similarly designed/looking flags?

A British vessel would not be neutral in Dec 41

Yup...Union Jack in the upper left corner as I was looking at her.

I don't fire til I see the whites of their eyes!

Most odd...the only other flags possibly matching your description are those of Australia, Canada and South Africa but none of them were neutral in Dec 41

THAT's what I was thinking! The whole British empire was "allied" in '41.

Oh well! I'm just going to write it off as going beyond the scope of my orders. I was on a shakedown. I was told to patrol a grid and was two days out from Lorient when I sunk her.

Just as Mr. jimbuna saying here it sounds "strange" can it be that, it can go under the heading of alcohol, is not allowed before the game begins, and in plain language, this means you have to blow into a breath analyzer before you play to be secure, so that there will be no hassles,

Put it down to withdrawal symptoms then

Did you get a red or green icon on the map after sinking? Was it listed as neutral on the logs screen back at base or just during the exit patrol screen? I find the two columns in the exit screen don't seem to line up well and I think a lot off tonnage is neutral.

I got red icons both times...it just happened again with a totally different career. I took out an Empire class freighter flying a british flag in October 1940.

Any Mods installed?
Look at the Defside.cfg file in the Roster folder.

GWX (of course)
Life Boats and Debris v4
Torpedo Damage Final v2.0
Merchant Fleet Mod 3.2
MFM v3 Skin Pack 1
SH4 UBM Flags for SH3

That's all.

Here's the British section of the DefSide.cfg file:
[SideEntry 22]
Country=British
Side=0
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19390902

[SideEntry 23]
Country=British
Side=1
StartDate=19390903
EndDate=19450814

[SideEntry 24]
Country=British
Side=0
StartDate=19450815
EndDate=19451231

It shows that the brits are on the Allies' side starting 09 SEPTEMBER 39. So why is it each time I've sunk a british ship (2 freighters & 4 tugs) they've all come up as Neutrals?

Yes, I am using SH3 Commander. Let me qualify that remark though. I use it to launch a new career or start a new patrol. If I'm finishing an existing patrol I just launch SH3 directly and load my career.
