Default Voice Recognition & Sonar

I love the voice recognition in DW except for a couple bugs. Not sure if anyone else has this problem.

After using VR for a while in the game, it suddenly refuses to recognize sonar commands. Most other voice commands are recognized fine. I can do sonar functions via mouse or keyboard but can no longer use the voice commands for sonar.

Also torpedo launching. They have never worked. I've trained the VR many times to make sure it can recognize my commands. It prints them out fine in testing. The game just isn't recognizing them.

The other problem is commands being recognized but not acted upon. For instance if I give the command to change course, I will get a positive response but the course isn't changed. I have to keep telling the helm to do the same thing over and over again as if he's disobeying me. lol

Anyone else with these problems?

Hey Shock Troop. Did you "train" the voice recognition software? I haven't had many problems myself. I think VR adds alot of dimension to DW as you give orders using your voice.

Ya, I trained it many times.

Like I said, I've tested the VR on text software and it's recognizing the words correctly. The game isn't getting it right or it's totally ignoring the commands. Dunno why. I also have a really nice headset with super clear mic quality.

It definately adds immersion to the game. I just wish I could depend on it more.

I've encountered the sonar recognition problem exactly as you've described.

Default Re: Voice Recognition & Sonar

I have had a similar problem when trying to use voice command to GOTO THE ATO SCREEN. It fails to go to that screen. All the other screens seem to work fine when I use voice commands to go them. It's just the ATO sceeen that gives me fits. I think that maybe I am misspronouncing the command or something.

Like Shock Troop I have a new headset with a nice mic and I have trained the ms voice commands using the Orsan Wells War of the Worlds and the Bill Gates speech training modules. I'll go train my voice with a few more training modules in the future to see if that helps.

My keyboard commands all work ok and the task bar in the DW screen will take me to the ATO screen as well.

It's just the voice command for one command that fails for me. All the other commands seem to work great.

This is apparently a bug in the system that has nothing to do with training your VR system. I just revert to the keyboard commands (F2) for sonar when this happens. Sure hope they've fixed this in 1.02.

Will they fix this problem in the next patch?...

Well im hardly the one to comment on th enext patch asxi have not much idea what exactly is being done with it but so far i think this is the first time ive heard about VR problems.(I dont use them my voice recognition is when i call to luft wolf to make a course change or some thing ) If this is the first time they have been mentioned then i wouldnt count to much on them being fixed in the next release.

Which in my book is just fine seing as how there is many more important things to fix.

All the same good luck to you VR users.

It's really amazing how often I screw up the pilot station in MS dives.

I make up for it by being a whiz on the TMA, ahem. :|\

This is most certainly NOT the first time this issue has been mentioned. I put it into the "wish list" when DW was first released. Others have mentioned it many times since then. Not that this means it will be addressed since it wasn't addressed in the first patch and there were other more pressing issues that needed to fixed first. I would like to think it will be addressed since VR is part of the game and it should perform as intended. :hmm:

Note: I rebooted my computer and started the demo again and the problem went away. So I was not misspronouncing the ATO Screen Command Evidently. After the reboot (no other changes were made) the demo game started accepting my voice command to "Goto the ATO Screen". So this is an intermittant type of bug possibly. I can always use the F(X) command where X is the number 1 though 9. I can't remember which keyboard command is used for the ATO screen at this time "(. I normally just get the manual out to figure that out or use the Commands button on the taskbar in the game.

Default Voice Commands Revisited after installing Patch 1.03 bd 367

I have not tried the voice commands with the PC3 as yet. I did use voice commands with the SeaWolf and not I am having problems with the GOTO SONAR voice command not working after a few times. It works ok after I train my microphone and start the game up but then after a while it won't goto the sonar screen anymore. The So something is changing.

I noticed when I was setting up the microphone voice system using Microsoft's speech software that there was a check box that dealt with training the voice while you use the system. I am wondering if the mic is picking up breathing sounds or external sounds and messing up my voice training? Yes I trained my voice using several of the MS voice training programs. I have a new set of Altec Lansing Mic/headset, a new Sound Card SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card, and a old Dell Dimension XPS T550 Computer. I had to buy the new sound card to get DW to even work when DW first came out. Not really sure right now which sound card drivers I am using. Probably the ones that came with the card. I am using DX 9c right now.

Going to go play with the Microsoft speech software settings to see if that will help any.

I wonder if a new thread that talks about using and setting up MS Speech Software for DW would be good?

One of the things that drew me to DW was the Voice Command feature. It ads some realism to the game and without it the game is not the same to me.

Also I would like to be able to use a Voice over internet program someday while playing DW Over the internet with others. I use to use VOIP in my online multiplayer flight sim games. There are two or three VOIP programs out there that were free back in 2000. Roger Wilco and Team Speak were two that I remember.
