Default [REQ] SH1 style TDC for auto targeting

Many years back I had Silent Hunter 1 and it had a feature that I liked a lot. The game did not have a manual targeting capability and it compensated for that in a way by making the auto targeting a little harder. Next to the periscope or TBT display was a box that indicated the percentage of a correct firing solution. Every time you raised the scope and placed the crosshairs on the target (in other words made an observation of the target) the percentage would increase. It would usually (if I remember correctly) start at 10%. In other words, if you shot at that point, the torpedoes would only have about a 10% chance of hitting. The more you observed the target, the better your solution would be. I believe the max was 95%. It could also keep track of multiple targets. There was also a "solution light" that would change from red to yellow, to green as your percentage increased. I believe you had to have at least an 80% to get a green solution. This feature forced you to make multiple observations of the target to "smooth" your firing solution, just as the real crews had to.

It would be realistic to make at least 3-4 observations of the target to get a good solution. For game play purposes, maybe this could be a random number to keep you guessing. No less than two, but no more than six. Or maybe it could vary with conditions, i.e the worse the sea state the more observations you would have to make.

As unusual as it may sound given my background, I am not into the manual targeting method, despite its historical accuracy. I feel it is too much of a hassle and having done it in real life I just want the game to move along. However, the current setup with auto targeting is a little too easy, too much of an all or nothing situation.

Not being a programmer, I have no idea of how hard this Mod would be to develop, but I can't believe it would be that difficult. Any takers?
