If you have an UI that shows TDC dials - you will see the TDC auto setting if you follow the steps above.
I don't have an dials I'm only using vanila.. guess I should just start installing mods.. I'm trying to figure out if I feel the game will be worth the effort!

Do you have trained crew? - there is a torp speed bug if you train up the torp man.
Nope , again this is my first mission so I want to get the feel for the game before I spend my first 20 crew points

This will still work - AOB will adjsut as you move your scope to new targets, speed will be the same for all ships if they are not on alert.
This leaves you to set new ranges with stadimeter for each target.
Awesome!!!

Any tips on setting the speed? I notice that my target was sometimes doing 4 knotts sometimes 5, acorrding to the tool tip, but I could not set 4.5 and I could not figure out how to take enough observations for them to calculate the speed?

If you have "Map Contacts On" in the options/realism page you can:-
  1. zoom in on contact and mark map - start stopwatch
  2. pause game on 3mins 15secs and measure distance contact travelled.
  3. 900m = 9knots. 1knot for each 100m

The easiest way to have a speed incication is to point your scopes cros at the bow of the ship and measure the seconds it takes to get to the back of the ship.

Then look up the length in meter in the manual and devide the ships lengt to the seconds it took to let it go past.

Multiply that number by 1.856 and you have the speed in knots.

In RL its hard to put some in paus mode

Is there a mod that fixes this save and reload bug? every time I submerge and resurface, the game seems to forget to send the watch up, the co2 increases and I'm nto sure the battery recharges?

That kind ruins the game, if mods can't fix that..

This happens when you save your game while submerged. Try ones while running diesels on the surface and most likely it will solve the problem.
