Being a submariner my advice to you is this. If you don't have a problem with going months without sunshine, go subs. Food is better, you get paid more, a lot of good guys serve on subs, and when you get your fish you know that you are one of the best the navy has to offer. Now that being said if you plan on going Nuc and ET (also know as a Reactor tech) you will not get nearly the same amount of free time that the coners get, but you get propay. You can expect early days and late nights as well to be honest, but you will advance quickly. In fact I knew guys on their first enlistment that had made E-6.
