Soooo....is this newbie Captain doing anything wrong?

Well I went back to good old AN81 and did the 24 hour thing, managed to sink a small merchant ship with a lucky 3,800m shot right in the arse with two torpedos (it was moving in a perfectly straight line and never zig zagged)...both my mission objectives show Complete, but I can't send any status report or exit the patrol...aaaaargh.
