@smoke: I don't know if you've done it already, but if I were you I'd probably start going through the sound files in my game folder - opening them to play outside of the game - to see if I could locate the file or files that were giving me the sound I was hearing in the game.

If you can pinpoint which sound file(s) = the BONG-BONG-BONG, you'll know which one(s) you need to replace with something you like better.

If none of the sound files sound like that when opened outside the game, then maybe something is getting distorted when the game is running... if that's even possible with just one file and not the audio effects in general.
