I'm not an expert but, i'ts either one of two things

1. you've got a torrented one

2. you don't have direct x

You can't come onto this site if you haven't brought your game. it's our preference for people to buy not pirate. (Just in case you have)

If not then download directx and you should be fine

This is a DirectX problem. The simplist solution is to install the version of DX that came on the installation disk. If you have downloaded the game from from Ubisoft or one of the other online companies that sell it, you'll need to go to Microsoft and get the lastest version of Direct 9.0c. Once DX is installed your error message should go away.

Windows Vista and 7 only come with DX10/11 installed. While they're supposed to be backwards compatible, they don't always load older games without issues due to missing files.

In this case, as cdrsubron7 said, you need to let it install a Windows 7 compatible version of DX9.

I ran into this situation with Aliens vs Predator and their fubar DX10/11 implimentation which forced me to go down to DX9. To use DX9, I had to install a Vista compatible version of DX9. After that, things worked perfectly and I could switch back and forth at will.

I'm currently running Win 7, but before this I used Vista. At least in my case with either Vista or Win 7 installing the version of DX 9.0c that came on the SHIV Gold Edition installation disk worked for me.

yep, the game and your computer should have directX 9.0c installed for running any old games or apps and sh4 comes with a slightly different version of directX (some sort of plug in app i think) that i have always been told NEEDS to be installed with the game as well so i never tried running sh4 without it

download and reinstall the directX 9.0c from the web and from the sh4 disc (or download) do a repair install then reinstall the directX that comes with it when it gets to that point

Agree with all of the above The one thing I was afraid of when installing my games on Windows7 was overwriting the DX11 with 9c. But as others pointed out to me, only the needed 9c files will be loaded.

Just let the DX on the game disc load, and all should be good. Have had no probs. with my older games with 7.
