I was considering browsing through the folders, but I figured that might be cheating, but I also came to the same conclusions mentioned earlier about calling for a tow or even just steering with the engines.

And yes, to be fair, I would immediately return to port, since I'm low on diesel and out of torps. It's so frustrating that I bagged so much tonnage only to be marooned in the middle of the Japanese sea. I evaded four very determined destroyers and now I simply can't turn to head to Midway, lol.

I think I'll go ahead and give editing the damage folder a shot. With some browsing I'm sure I can find it. If not, like it was mentioned earlier, back full until we get to midway, lol

I may also change my sub's name. Not that I have any disrespect for the historical vessels...I just feel I don't do them justice. I fancy fictional characters and places, even if it's set in a real period in history. I hope I'm not the only one...

Did it work? You see, everytime I've been too badly damaged to make it to port, I've just deleted the file and started over. Since I've become accustomed to being alive though (yes, I died a lot before), I've been having fun with the Mission Editor and the data files too. I'm like you actually, I've given my subs names that weren't used (as far as I know) USS Mako is my current one. Anyway, the damage stats are saved in one of those cfg files. I've never actually edited them to see if it would work, so that's why I asked. I'll probably get a submarine damaged on purpose when I get home, so that I can try it.

Any luck at all though?

Sadly, no, I can't figure out what exactly needs to be changed in the lines of coding. I just figured I'd start a new game...I hate it, but what can you do? I guess I shouldn't have been so greedy and ran that last attack...

I'm currently going to start a new game with the USS Lionfish (I believe that's a fake name...?)

No, it's not...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Lionfish_(SS-298)

There doesn't seem to be a War Patrol Report for the Lionfish though, but otherwise these may be found here http://wwiiarchives.net/servlet/documents/usa/100/0 and here http://www.hnsa.org/doc/subreports.htm

WOW! Thank you so much for all that information. I can't believe how many enemy subs they ran into. It's just too bad they operated right at the end of the war...

Thanks for that wealth of information. I really appreciate it.

Of course there is a USS Lionfish, she is preserved as a museum ship at "Battleship Cove" Fall River, Mass. I visited there sometime ago.

Also, there are War Patrol reports of the USS Lionfish at hnsa.org, here is the web addy: http://issuu.com/hnsa/docs/ss-298_lionfish?mode=a_p

Great! I missed that one!

And Thanks for the hint! http://www.battleshipcove.org/ss298-history.htm

A little tip regarding issuu.com.
If you log in and remove the "?mode=a_P" from the link, like http://issuu.com/hnsa/docs/ss-298_lionfish you'll get the option of downloading the document.

If someone has a problem with download capability or otherwise wants them, I've downloaded all reports etc. and can transfer it to DVDs (13,7GB)...
