Hah, I might just stay with vanilla a little longer, just to see how large a ship I can sink in surface combat

Slightly off topic though, are there any records of a submarine, regardless of nation and era, that has taken on a surface warship and won? I know I've heard of a few US commanders using their boats as MTBs in shallow waters, but I don't know if that was just against unarmed merchants.

What are you calling a warship. Never heard of a sub attacking anything larger than a DE on purpose, then it's was they couldn't dive...and still didn't win. Some subs took on smaller minelayers, Qships, patrol boats, ect..

I'm sure a few subs had to fight DD's on the surface, we just never heard much about it since they lost and were never heard from again.
