How would TC into land be a game or PC fault?

I have had a couple occasions where something causes the game to freeze up momentarily in that it refuses to respond to keyboard commands - like changing the TC, or making a course adjustment - while it sorts itself out. So I'm sitting there biting my nails wondering whether or not I can hit the right keys quickly enough when it starts responding again to avoid any disaster I might be heading towards at a higher TC than I'd like to be at under the circumstances.

OTOH the freezes typically only happen when I'm nearing base or some other heavy traffic coastal area, so I should probably know better than to be in TC at all.

I'd be reasonable with DiD as well. If my phone rings and distracts me, or I'm tired as heck and just do something wildly stupid and unrealistic, I'll reload. The game requires house rules like this, and from my perspective house rules only work when they bring the right (i.e. realistic) results.

Otherwise DiD makes the game extremely rewarding and thought-provoking. There were several times when I was left pretty much shocked by consequences of my own decisions, and times when I really got immersed in the tension, because the risks felt very heavy. The real payoff of DiD is not so much the challenge as that golden grail or simulations - suspension of disbelief.

Perfectly put.

I get the same issue. This is the main reason I got SH3 commander - I can spawn outside of my home port.

This is also why I don't like raiding harbors.

One of the biggest detractors from playing DiD is the fact you just spent many years in game, and many hours real time building your renown, boat, and crew. You hate to lose it all. But luckily you can just start a new career around the same time frame and get similar equipment rather quickly.

Default Not really a problem

DiD for me unless it is something silly (such as CTD or wander off for a wee and forget to pause thus getting. That being said I used to simply delete careers, now I save them (well zip them up and remove) as SH3 commander keeps things nicely for me.

If I want a better piece of kit then I start at a later stage in the war. I have STILL never tried an XXI and prefer the big lumbering IXC. Would love a snorkel - never seem to last long enough to get one.

My careers are in double figures - never really counted.

The watch crew doesn't call out "Land ho!" That in itself is enough to warrant cutting yourself a break.

One word - "Bernard". I hate it when he's driving.

Seriously though, sometimes on high TC, my system will lock up (I think it's when I get close enough to something to load new textures or objects), and by the time it responds, I'm driving a sub down main street. Lesson? Slow down TC when nearing land.
