I think we're screwed, frankly.
IMO we are well down the path of ruin and decline already. For many reasons, some of which have already been cited. I think the country our children and grandchildren will inherit will be a run down, dilapidated and poor, second world nation. Our infrastructure is crumbling, most of our industry has gone overseas to places like china, we're drowning in debt, cost of living keeps increasing, the list goes on. We are well, and truly, farked.

But hey, we can all look up to the corporate executives for keeping the "American dream" alive eh? HA!

edit: Add crap like this, on top of all that. Hell, we won't even own our own properties anymore with stuff like that going on. On the bright side.. maybe we wont have an illegal immigration problem anymore when the mexicans realize the land of milk and honey has dried up, and theres nothing left to be had.

I agree. The United States of America is a setting sun, and that is not a new development. Like Rome, the politicians of all persuasions are her undoing; keeping themselves in power while neglecting their duty. Should she perish, her epitaph would read 'Here Lies America, Died of Polemics.'

Optimistic about the future of my nation...for the first time in a while.
Funny - and I don't at all mean to take a stance on this - but this EXACT quote is what I heard from several of my more liberal-oriented friends back in 2008. And look where that got you

Sadly, behind the partisan slogans and big promises, politicians on all sides aren't all that different... the problems are a lot deeper than any election can fix right now.

Normally I agree with Bubblehead1980, but in this case he is wrong in using MOB's words when expressing himself. It shows a lack of imagination and gives the opponents a heads up which is unneccessary.

Now that's a party that I can get down with. Black is second only to Highland Park 12-year for day-to-day consumption.

Oh rot! None of this is new to politics, only the methods have been refined. Go read some newspapers from 100 years ago and see.

An optimist is nothing more than a poorly informed pessimist.

QFT sadly but hey...would it be so bad if the Us is not top dog? No more spending blood and treasure overseas for example? Russia is doing ok today.
