Like most I'll wait. SH4 is easier to mod and the modders just keep putting out good stuff. I'll trade the eyecandy for realistic gameplay anytime.

Just got SH4 Gold yesterday so I'm busy with the new material and mods that can come with it.

I won't be getting SH5 until/if they get rid of DRM.

To be honest SH5 is a great game and all even with the DRM. However I have always preferred the fleet boats over the uboats. They were bigger and after mid-war they looked better than the uboats IMHO. SH4 is the subsim I play the most, but like I said, SH5 is a fun platform. I think SH5 would have faired better if it had been a Pacific campaign genre and not had DRM.

DRM Yes, Pacific campaign not necessarily! The Atlantic U-boat war is probably the most popular in sub simulation history....sales don't lie and allot of players gave grief of SHIV until the Atlantic addition.

I think the DRM and the dumbing down of the controll system and Arcadishness graphics did SHV in. Ubisoft never learns and took a step backwards with this one. Eye candy is great if its realistic.

SHIV was the same way to some extent with the unrealistic eye candy. Thank god for modders!

As for me Its SHIV and SHIII!

I got SHV but I haven't played it in a long time. my internet connection is constant but sometimes it likes to not work, as much as I enjoy SHV, my computer can barely run it and with the internet the way it is, I will wait until the game is DRM-less and I have a PC that can handle it better.

That being said, I am anxiously awaiting anything put out by the guys who did Battle For The Baltic.

I played SHV 3 times and uninstalled it. I have lost count of the number of times I have played SH4.

SH4 just keeps calling me back. What a great game...

If that's true then why aren't you playing AOtD and SH1?

But seriously, folks...SH4 is a marvel. It still needs some improvement, but what it has so far makes it well worth playing.

Wouldn't even know what AOtD is...., I think I played the original Silent Service by Microprose, not sure if that anything to do with this series, geesh that was probably 18 years ago. Still got the Tandy PC I played it with and it should still be on there.

Aces Of The Deep. Arguably the first real subsim, as though it came after Silent Service it was the first one to have a realistic campaign, with assigned patrol areas and career tracking. It also had realistic sonar evasion tactics (bottom-sitting, with a chance to get stuck there) and wolfpacks.

No, SH1 didn't have anything to do with the current series. It was better in some ways.

All that said, some of the feeling for me does indeed come from what I see and hear, so I play SH3 and SH4, complain about what's been lost but enjoy what I have.

I didn't play the other SH series, but it amazes me when I hear all the things they left off, like they moved the game from a true sim to arcade play. Seems the past games included wolfpacks, subs on the bottom, true celestial patterns and navigation, SH commander, realistic sonar, ect...worse, seems they coded many of these thing where they can't be added.

"I'll give SH 5 try when its patched with DRM gone, has more time for a supermod of sorts to maybe debut and if its possible, a PTO mod for SH 5, like how OM for SH 4 lets you use U boats in the ATO."

Totally agree! At this point, Awesome graphics and a detailed U boat, while great, just don't cut it for me. A GWX type mod, and the elimination of a constant connection and I'll be sold

I'd like to see PTO for SH5! I also feel that UBI should have produced a PTO and an ATO game separately like the old Combat Flight Simulator did Pacific and European versions. It just seems to be more sensible to me. I believe the mods would have been easier to sort also. IMHO.

What I should have said was unrealistic hollywood movie drama eye candy.

And just for your information I am currently on my 12th patrol in Command Aces of the Deep.
