![]() Actually what comes next is a prolonged session of trying to decide who gets promoted, who gets what award, which men will be moving on to another assignment or going ashore for additional training, which goes on until I sweat out a satisfactory compromise between attempted realism and the desire to keep as much of my experieneced, familiar crew on board as possible. Between that and updating the logs, it can be a couple hours of post-patrol paperwork. And at the moment, I don't really add anything to the logs except notes on promotions, awards, and transfers. Beyond those additions it's strictly the info that's already provided for departure from base, ships sunk, and return to base. Regarding the separate .doc file for patrol logs, I only just realized a couple weeks ago that I could click on the links for "Patrol 1," "Patrol 2," etc. when I open my updated personnel file and get a similar printable file of the logs themselves. ![]() And I'm also toying with the idea of keeping more extensive records from within the patrol itself, like notes on the weather, all contacts, notes on attacks made, etc. But I don't know. I tried that when I was first playing and soon got bogged down - but then I was still trying to remember how to find my way around in the game just to do the most basic of things. Now so much of the routine of "running the boat" has become just that, routine, when it comes to what to click and what key to press. So maybe I'll be able to keep a more detailed log without it seeming like such a hassle. |

If you have 'Use Real Ship Names' selected in Commander, and you don't see any real ship info (including names) in the logs when you access them through Commander, then you may not have updated your Personnel File yet. After each patrol you must update your Personnel File before accessing your logs - that's what triggers Commander to flesh out the log files already created by the game with real ship data. If you are updating the Personnel File first, then looking at your logs, and see real ship names but no cargo/crew data... I got nothin'. I've never known Commander to put in the names and nothing else. |

![]() ![]() After I posted it occurred to me that I vaguely remembered seeing a pic that looked like the log from inside the game with ship names on it, and that I had never asked about it at the time. I guess it just didn't register then. But, you know, we're talking about someone who played many hours of SH3 before realizing there was a screen where she could change the settings on her torpedoes before firing. ![]() |

It should. I've put in entries for every one of IABL's ships. In fact, I've put in more names for them than anything else.

One thing, I haven't seen the latest set of IABL ships, but if different ship classes use the same label, for example: ABC1=Small Merchant ABC2=Small Merchant then when the player sinks a "Small Merchant" (which SH3 dutifully writes to the logs), SH3Cmdr will grab a name from the ABC1 list, even if it was an ABC2 that the player sunk. There is no way around this as SH3Cmdr relies on SH3 to tell it what was sunk and if the modder has decided to give multiple ship classes the same label, then, there's not much SH3Cmdr can do. Not saying that is the case with IABL's ships as I haven't seen them, but something to keep in mind, SS, in case you notice some odd results. This can be mitigated though by smart "mapping" ship classes back to ship name groups (ie "GenericMerchantsAndTankers"). You can also see this in action in the SH3 Ship Museum. Using the above example, every ship class that has the same label will display the info (displacement, length etc) of the FIRST ship in the list that has that name. A tad confusing if ABC1 is 80m long and 6000GRT and ABC2 is 60m long and 4000GRT, as ABC2 will show 80 and 6000. |

Hmm...
![]() IABL's ships don't have that problem. His are all labelled according to the class he gives them - M01B is labelled Medium Merchant 01. But there are some others I want to look at.

Yeah its only showing the ship names not the cargo and crew lost, and Im not using the Merchant Fleet mod, Im using commander, torpedoe damage v2 final, lifeboat mod and all the mods that come WITH gwx so idk whats goin on, it kind of irks my nerves.
And thanks Sailor Steve! after you mentioned how you like to keep your logs more realistic its going to irk my nerves every time to look at them so now IM going to start editing them ![]() Quote:

Grrrrrr - been lurking on here for a while AND play WAW yet missed that one - and the link doesn't work anymore. As for reporting - I actually write up a Kreigstagebuch (KTB - War Diary) for each patrol now. First hand-written notes, then "typed" (Open Office) into a proper KTB.
