Newbie Question re easy subsim point and shoot
Can someone recommend a good beginner sub game that requires very little technical skill, just to get started (and good graphics)? What I would love to do is to easily be able to look through the scope and shoot passing ships and also shoot boats or planes whiles surfaced. This would be an introduction game for me. Someone gave me Sub Command and I could not make heads or tails out of it. I look forward to your suggestions.

Grey Wolf Hunter of the North Atlantic would be a good point and shoot Uboat simulator. I'm not sure if it would run in anything newer than WinXP.
Also, look for a used copy of 360's Das Boot. Not for the uBoat technogeek but otherwise very decent. Grey Wolf has the better graphics and an interior tour of a uBoat, but it's almost too easy to sink the ships. Das Boot's graphics are more FS4.0 but the gameplay is better than GW's. ChristopherT |

Try Silent Hunter 2 it's got all the stuff you are looking for it has automatic torpedo computor so it's close to point and shoot, AA mounts, and Deck gun . A very easy players manual as long as your cool driving a uboat, and Destroyer Command is also a good game.

I recently bought Silent Hunter III off Ebay, but I am yet to recieve it. Do you think that is too hard to start with? Should I go ahead and buy SH II and play that first before progressing to SH III? Let me know your thoughts, please.

Not hard at all. SH3 has an 'auto-targetting' mode which feeds in all the information, plus puts a little triangle on the screen which shows red if the angle is bad, yellow if it's sort of okay, and green if you have a good shot. It's as simple as it gets, and is a much better sim than SH2 ever was.
