Tried to get back into the silent hunter series after a good few years away.. Got right back into it starting with sh5, graphics are good ( far from great ) i tried really hard to enjoy it, but knowing the potential for what simulators should be (not arcade games) i did not like it at all.. I took some more time off and decided to add the many mods.. It made a difference and im grateful the modders are at work, but imo its far from anything good(the game that is) the modders have their work cut out on this one for sure.. But i went back to sh3gwx3 and couldnt be happier.. Even back to sh4 as well.. I keep the sh5 disk on the shelf where it belongs for now..

fastfed,

Your right there my friend. One of the problems we have as modders at SHV is that many of the great individual modders & modding Mega teams of the grand SHIII days are gone. In some cases they gave their heart & soul into SHIII & in the end & at the peak of the SHIII modding days many had retired from modding, & some could not go through the headache & personnel sacrifice in developing mods for SHV. I hope one day they come back.

JCWolf

Diving Duck

GWX team

The above mentioned modders & teams where my Jedi Sith Lord Instructors during my SHIII days, I prey one day we will serve along side each other again as modders in whatever Silent Hunter it be.

I totally Agree , I never had a CTD with SH5, SH5 just need some modifications and tweaks to fit your own personal tastes and the specific way you want to play your SH5 simulator

Personally speaking, I'm looking forward to a supermod but doubt it'll be in the short or even medium term unless Ubi set back to working on the game and release a final patch.

The longer the delay the less chance of this happening I'm afraid.

Obviously, a super mod like GWX would be a Godsend for SH5.

But, while we wait, a nice interim collection mod might be nice. A lot of new players are overwhelmed by the many fine and, sometimes, overlapping mods currently available. Some veteran players, who have a nice fat list of mods, that all work together well, could publish a list of their mods on this forum. It would be especially helpful if this player could describe the overall purpose or philosophy for their particular selection of mods: say, Most Realistic Graphics, More Aggressive Gameplay, More Immersive Environment, More Intuitive User Interface, etc.

My two cents.

Get off the GWX kick. I'm glad to see nothing of the likes of it here in SH5 and hope it stays that way

Im with Ducimus, but I also want more units and enviromental stuff.
better merchies, planes and some PT boats would be nice.
Privateer and co seem to be making some good progress with GR2 export/imports, hopefully they can open the 3d flood gates.

I agree TDW, the scripting is the trick. So much has been resolved from this I don't see where a mega mod is needed.

No need to beat a dead horse, the past is in the past.

A super mod can be a compilation of the mods already out there,
it just makes simpler for most users, sometimes supermods can tie up loose ends for modders too - For instance, I could release a bunch of new NPC units, but there is bugger all point unless someone can script them in to the campaign.

Unless your were refering to GWX as a 'private club' in which case you can chill, as I dont think we will be seeing that sort of thing again. Sure it was abit anti-social, but it got **** done for the most part.

Anyway its late 2010 and for better or worse everyone has moved on from that saga.... I hope

I've reinstalled it now that the first wave of mods have been polished and Darkwraith's super UI mod has reached a fine maturity. With the radio mods installed and the new UI and bug fixes its just as good as SHIII with the added bonus of extra eye-candy. I love listening to the events radio and just listening to the war unfolding. And then there's SteelViking's realistic interior mod. I was reluctant to install that at first as I figured that although realistic the white paint on everything would ruin the dark and moody atmosphere. To my surprise his careful texturing and attention to detail has enhanced it more than I thought possible. And the ability now to write and export your own journals is wonderful.

To my mind its as good as GWX SHIII now, only prettier. My only headache is that the U-Boat still looks undermanned and there isn't enough food and bobbins modelled on the inside - but I don't think there's much that can be done about that.

How cheap do you want it. $17.99 + free shipping : http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hunter-...6759538&sr=1-1

The only thing stopping you is your computer.

I'm of the same opinion as Ducimus - more so with the relaxing of the on-line requirement. Any news on that ?.
