The Soviet Navy's Project 611, also known by their NATO reporting name of Zulu-class, were designed as attack submarines, but six were converted in 1956 to become the world's first ballistic missile submarines, one armed with a single F-11FM Scud missile and five others with two Scuds each. The missiles were too long to be contained in the boat's hull, and extended into the enlarged sail. Soviet submarine B-67 successfully launched a missile on 16 September 1955.

The design was influenced by the German Type XXI U-boat of the World War II era.[1]

The success of the converted Zulus prompted the design of Project 629, the Golf class submarines.

A total of 26 boats were built, entering service from 1952 to 1957, 8 of them in Leningrad and 18 in Severodvinsk.

Jap, although i used original plans i had the feeling that the bow was too round shaped by the beginning, too. So here are some new pics. The bow now seems right and i`ve started working on the sail`s interior based on photographies:

Yes, I used these. had already found them myself, but thank you for the effort.the plan was my template for the boat already.actually, the first bow shape was designed as shown there. i am also not shure if the sail proprtions are right. compared to the photographs, it seemed slightly to small. I´ll do some details now and than send pics of the finished sub. CU

Default Projekt 611 AW

Yes, I will also build the SSB Variant of the Zulu with the modified sail and keel structure. of course, the standard variant you can see in the pictures was not equipped with the R11FM missiles. I will do it as usual. download the Projekt 658MX or 667A to see how it works.
