They don't make appliances like that any more Jim. I miss the old Bedford styles. I wonder if my grandfather ever used a Green Goddess.

A selfless bit of advertising for your mates transport

I've been in a Green Goddess during the firemen's strike in about 2003, although it wasn't green at that time, horrible horrible things! Luckily I was only getting a lift to the mess in it. For the actual strike I was called for I was fortunate enough to be driving a crew-cabbed Transit flat bed with a BA crew/kit - I think the GG was only there to remind us just how bad it could've been! Strike got cancelled before it started, I was quite looking forward to it - covering the N. Wales coast.

On another totally separate point (almost), the RAF BD monument - I've worked with guys from 5131 BD Sqn - they are embarrassed when called out as they have the 'blues-and-twos' blaring away but the law doesn't allow them to disobey any traffic signals! So imagine a crossroads with traffic lights, everybody stops for them and then gets so pee'd off that they don't move . It just isn't right - welcome to the UK - once home to the world's common sense

The Police are also not automatically allowed to ignore the highway code and do such at their own risk.

If an accident occurs as a result of non-adherence they also run the risk of prosecution.

Their standing orders are that they can drive fast etc. if doing otherwise would hinder their response or impede their effectiveness to answer an emergency.

At all times the driver can be held responsible for any consequences coming about as a result of driving outside of the parameters of the highway code.

Ha, isn't that just typical Berbunch, I didn't know that but I'm hardly surprised, some of our regulations are so stupid you really would think it's a joke but sadly it's not.
To be fair on the GGs though, they were meant for the post-apocalyptic wasteland Britain (or Deptford on a Friday...heck...on ANY night...or day ) so I guess the ride quality would suffer a bit
Still, a reminder of what firefighters of the past had to use to deal with the fires they fought and the accidents they attended.

My understanding was that red lights were to be treated as give ways, but I could be well off the mark here and talking my usual cks. It's still embarrassing for the lads (and lasses) to just sit there till the green light.

@Oberon - I've never been to Deptford, but I'm guessing it's like most British towns on a Friday night, full of sober gentlemen escorting their ladyfriends home from an evening at the theatre

I had one colleague go through a red light with blues and twos switched on who collided with a motorist conforming to the green light....the injury to the motorist was minor whiplash, my colleague was 'grounded/foot patrol' for 6 months but warned/advised anything approaching a serious injury to the motorist could have resulted in prosecution then disciplinary.

Makes it worse when you read that things like that are responding to hoax calls!

Very true mate but there is also the other side of the coin where patrol vehicles have been driven recklessly it could be argued and deaths have ensued.

I've seen more than my fair share of John Waynes in my time
