Some bad news for us PCers. Rockstar announced that they will not be porting RDR to the pc. It will be console only.

Kinda. They said they currently have no plans to do so, which doesn't mean anything. More likely that they're trying to convince people to buy it on console, and when sales decline they do a half-assed attempt at porting it to tap into a new market.

At least, that's what they did for GTA4, in which case we will see a RDR port in about a year or so.

I got the console game last night. Played for about an hour. Lots of fun really. Odd playing on the PS3.

I don't get how people can play shooters on a console using a control pad. I find it impossible when trying to do the same on my pc using a x360 controller.

The game features a auto-aim type deal. You draw your weapon then hold the use weapon button. The game will put the site right on the bad guy/animal. I was having difficulty also until auto-aim. My only problem is bad guys behind rocks....I always keep wanting to throw a grenade.

Hawk you'll get a couple of grenade esc options later in the game. Soon as you hit Mexico it opens up one of them.

I finished the game. It is truly a great game to play. I enjoyed it through and through.

Now I move on to Assassins Creed!

I still need to beat it. I'm in the final 3-4 missions, and have beaten all of the challenges and all but one side mission.

The only reason I haven't finished it is because someone has already told me how it ends.

I got to the final mission, where you have to kill such and such a person (not saying who to avoid spoiling it), and instead of engaging in the epic, climactic duel; I just shot the guy while on horseback. Old west driveby style. Had no idea you were supposed to actually confront him.

Hey, if you passed the mission all is good.

My kids looked up the ending but I asked they not tell me. I figured it out. It is not a huge dramatic ending but a ending befitting a western IMO. Rating the game I give it a 10. Great story line, imaginative, the graphics are excellent. Overall just very enjoyable.

Totally agree with 'Hawk.

Brilliant in virtually every way. I just love lurking around in built up areas and watching the folks go about their everyday lives. The saloon in Armadillo is excellent for this. One night in Mexico I actually watched a guy get so drunk he staggerd into a campfire and burnt himself to death!

I once killed 42 grizzlies up in Tall Trees in a single sitting - I must have been right in their spawn point. I found it was best to use the semi-automatic shotgun on them, and give them two shots to the head at close range while using the slo-mo option. Worked well for me. Made a packet by selling the fur, claws etc in Mexico. Cougars are a nightmare. If you don't hear them before they attack you are pretty much dead.

So much to do, and so much to see. Fantastic. I've forgotten the number of times I have watched a sunset/sunrise and been totally mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the visuals. The thunderstorms are easily the best I have ever seen in any game.

And the great thing is when you have "completed" the game you can still go on playing. 140 hours plus now - talk about value for money.

I bought the X-box version. My box is attached to a 17" flat screen and the visuals were nice and crisp. I saw the PS3 version round a mate's on some massive HDTV and the graphics were blocky and indistinct, with less grass detail etc. Not as good as X-box in my opinion.

Whichever version you get you are in for a treat. Could not be more highly recommended. Get it - now!

Regards,

Mike

Oh I agree that you are in for a treat! The two features I like that made the game enjoyable was the auto-aim option and the slow-mo gun action if you so desired. Slo-mo gun fights were awesome. Just a lot of fun for me. I did not fool with the animals to much. The cougars do suck though. Once I planted bait then walked off a bit to see what would come....damn cougar got me in about 5 seconds of dropping the bait! I did not fool with bait anymore. Granted I did not do a lot of the side things such as getting outfits for my character but overall it did not take or add to my gaming experience. Horse mechanics was nice as well. I'm playing Assassins Creed right now and the horse mechanics do not come anywhere near what Rockstar did in Red Dead. I hope there is a second one.
