I'm pretty much behind the times here, running only:

GWX 3 St Naz and Schluese and other units V4
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - No Medals on Crew
My Visual Tweaks*
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
GWX_ships_Buoyance&draught_mod
Unofficial_rockets_fix_GWX3.0
WBNN Mission Orders Lite

*includes GWX-TA1.3_Moonmod-Small, Tails - grey + coloured, Torpedo damage Final, HurricaneReskin_Dowly and Foam512.

Are there any majority-agreed core, or essential, GWX3 mods?

Aside from Commander (I know, not really a mod, but still) I can't ever see not using Mission Orders Lite. Or Integrated Orders. In fact I don't use any mod that interferes with the commands.cfg files unless I can make it compatible with IO with a manual edit. That plus something that gets the rank/medals off the clothes and preferably puts the crew in more casual and realistic attire. And an environmental mod with at least a 16k atmo, with those it's kind of a toss-up depending on mood. But I wouldn't want to go back to the 8km atmo.

To be fair, SH Commander can technically modify files, and alter your U-Boat name, wind, gun reload, etc... I suppose that makes it a mod.

I'd use Mission Orders Lite myself, but I still haven't completed a full campaign, so I want to see everything. Once that's done, it will probably be at the top of my list, so I can end the suffering.

JScones,

The long awaited Merchant_Fleet_Mod_3.2 adds alot of really good looking merchant ships to the sim.

The latest version of GWX 3 St Naz and Schluese and other units V4 is GWX 3 Wilhemshafen,St Naz,Schluese and xtra ships V6, and it is worth the upgrade.

Sigh, I'm positive it's awesome but when I try it I get a crash on loading unless I pare it down to the bare minimum (lite harbour traffic, etc.).

I remember someone saying I would have problems with V4 if I tried to play it past a certain date (somewheres in 1943?) but I hate sailing in and out of a mostly empty harbor. I guess if I ever survive until the point where the earlier version may become problematic I'll have to switch over and start all my patrols at sea so I don't know what I'm missing and hope that doesn't bork up my existing career.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate this! I am trying to look for some of the mods you guys listed, I sort the list by downloads figuring they must be popular, but I'm probably wrong? Either way I am not finding many of the ones listed?

Are they all on the download page?

Sorry you can't play it frau it is good.

fastfed,
Some of them are but, alot are not yet. If you look through the SH3 mods forum, you should be able to find threads for them. Some of the ones on my list are like Frau's, where I combined mods together, or took bits and pieces of several mods to make one I liked.

I keep a folder on my desktop with a list of all the mods I use, a copy of each mod for easy reinstall, and a copy of every in-game file I've altered, including Commands.cfg the way I want it. After every mod reinstall I put in my own files, so they are always the way I want them.

I've got a folder on my external drive where I unzip all the mods I download, so I can go in and peruse the files they add/use without messing about in any of my MODS folders in the program files. I've learned never to enable a mod without looking at what files it adds or (especially) overwrites. But then JSGME makes this easier, if I get a notice there that something from another mod is being overwritten and I wasn't expecting it I know I gotta go back and recheck some things.

I've manually edited the game's basic.cfg file so that never gets overwritten, if I have to make more edits for an additional mod I just do it manually (and like you I keep a copies of the original and all the edits, with notes about what got changed). More and more though I'm finding it easier to do those edits through Commander and let it overwrite stuff when the game loads, that way the file that's in the game folder is the original but all my desired changes are still there when I'm playing.
