No problem. If you have any questions about how to do stuff in GIMP, I would be glad to help.

.GR2 files can be viewed in Goblin, which is an .exe file in the root folder of SH5, however it cannot be used to edit the .GR2 files directly. To edit them directly, I would suggest one of the many free hex editors. I use the one that is available in the download section here on subsim under utilities. I should warn you though, hex editing is no easy business, it is pretty complicated. I only know how to do simple stuff(like changing texture assignments to an extent). However, with the hex editor, you can easily find all the files that are being used to render something, so it would help you track down the textures.

question : can GIMP add a gloss finish to textures?

and if so.....which function should i use

thanks for your advice

GIMP can add a little bit of a gloss effect by simply upping the opacity of the image. That is, making the alpha layer more opaque. But, I see that you have already put the entire texture to full opacity, so this is not an option.

I would recommend using Goblin to add the gloss effect as it does a much better job anyway. The only problem is that you are pretty limited as to what you can apply the gloss effect to, in Goblin. I am pretty sure that it will apply it to the entire torpedo, as you cannot just select the head.

I can walk you through how to do this in Goblin if you would like. Are you wanting to do this to all of the torps?

no i just wanted add it to the warhead....to make it stand out more
i'm happy with the way the body turned out...but i wanted to add
more definition to the torpedo head....i think i need to find a good
texture for each colour that is consistent,so it doesn't look mismatched
on the nose...the search continues

Greetings.
Let me first congratulate this excellent group of people that make up this great Forum. Its work, has made this simulator is really real.
I congratulate BowfinSS287 for his idea of change and add some realism to the torpedoes, both insiders and outsiders. I've also been working torpedoes, but more in the interior of the submarine.
We know that these torpedoes will vary according to the campaign progresses, but the textures really bring the SH5, leave much to be desired, unfortunately, I have no material support from the original textures of these torpedoes, but I saw some historical photos that these were also color metal or steel.
In the photos accessible a view to use the steel and the head color red, not where it corresponds to the color of torpedo G7a-TI, I appreciate any correction ...

These are the torpedoes with metal textures:

This is the modification of the tail of the torpedo:

Other views of the torpedo:

Excuse my poor English.

Again my congratulations on this excellent Forum and I hope someday I can help with my work ...

So you found a solution to make the torpedoes shiny?

Nozaurio, your internal torpedoes look great! Would be possible to do this (more realistic) please?

That way you could have all your torps look exactly the same, those inside and those outside.
i should have taking your advice,i pasted your torpedo head into my
body and the result is much better than version 1.0...going to do some
more work and if all looks good....version 2.0 will look better
thanks again for you input into this mod
