In my hometown they tried a few recycling collection methods, the cheapest and to my mind most effective one was to have a separate bin for *all* recyclables except glass, and have that sorted by hamd at the dump. Paid for by increased bin charges, but by no measn a large increase.

I live in an apartment block.
Our binmen leave the emptied bins outside the property on the pavement. The council then threaten to fine us (the residents) for blocking the pavement. Brilliant. ![]() And yes, I know the easiest solution is for us the residents to move them back in. But, we all work during the day. The bins get emptied and left on the pavement in the morning, just after we've all left for work. So then they are there all day, until about 6pm when the first of us gets back from work. This isn't good enough apparently. We're going to get fined if this continues. What do they want, for one of us to take a day off work every week to move the bins back into the front garden? ![]() It's absolutely bloody ridiculous. |

What you need to do is move the bins to the next building one day, to the one on the other side the next, across the street another time. In this way all the neighbours are pissed off.
Then circulate a petition among all the area demanding change. Should make for some interesting street discussions.
