I certainly don't consider myself an 'expert' but in response to the above the answer as already stated is 'no'. You receive renown after you see the message "She's going down". One of the potential benefits of reporting a convoy is the fact that should you be within visible/eyesight range when reporting said convoy, the game will throw an imaginary dice and dependent upon whether there are sea or air assets within range, you may receive unexpected help. It cuts the same way for the convoy should they detect you so be very alert. |

I guess once again I'm the odd man out. I write down my position, course, speed, and the weather in a personal log book every day at the same time, and send in a position report. All kaleuns were required to do this until 1943 (don't remember the exact date) when BdU figured out the Allies might be reading their mail. After that I send in one once every 2d6 days.
