Hi there , this is just a suggestion ( not sure ) , perhaps can be released a Shadows mod with Three degrees of resolution ( Low, Middle , High ) , and the player can choose depending on their own video card capability

Low

Middle

High

Well, I already have a low and a high resource usage version out. I suppose I could release my new work as a the low resource one, and try to develop even better quality shadows without worrying about the resolution and such.

No offence, but I would not use the setup in those screenshots, because there is no split in those. The effect that shadow split makes is realistic, as there is no such thing as a perfectly defined shadow edge.

My Fps diez a horrible death inside the con tower looking at a drop to 5-10 fps... and one freeze so far. Everywhere else on the ship is fine, and I'm running a 5870 Ati, 8 gigs or ram... Phenom Quad.. I'm at a loss as to why I'm getting into trouble here.

It is a conflict between your graphics card setup and the game engine. Do you have Catalyst Control Center? This mod should run perfectly if you set all the 3d graphic options to accept the application settings. The game should also run smoother in general when CCC is set that way.

Well my game actually runs faster when applying 8X AF over the driver then it does with using application settings, which I think do not include AF at all. With installing HQ Shadows it completely goes to ....I will check out low quality, but this somehow is complicated from the beginning.

Your low-res shadow mod works fine. Funny that because my laptop is a powerful one and should've handled the high-res one.

Yes, it is weird how this mod works fine for some, but then it does not work so well for others, even when they have higher specs than I do. I have an ATI Radeon 4600 series, and both versions work like a charm. There are a lot of factors that could affect it though. The settings of someone's graphics card, the resolution they keep their monitor at, etc.

I've actually stopped using this mod mainly because of weird rendering. When submerged I've noticed that often times the shadows from the sunny side of the tower/boat is displayed on the shaded side.

There also does not appear to be any filtering to blend the sharper shadows up close into the long-distance stock hazy ones, most noticeable with the boat's shadow on the bottom. As such, there is a sharp line at certain distances between the sharper shadows and hazy ones.

I will admit, though, that this mod does clean up the shadows nicely in most other instances.

I could probably fix those problems. I really did not pay too much attention to those shadows, as I don't use the external camera very much.

Good mod but yes even on low res my PC still takes a big hit, my card is an ATI HD4850 512mb, processor is dual core 3.5ghz and 4gb DDR2 kingston HyperX ram, hoping to update to a new video card but wouldn't be for at least 6mths yet! so a lower version would be great! I am about to try your interior mod, looks good from the pics!

Hi,
well i got a strange bug with this mod...so far everything runs fine, but when i enter the tower the fps drop and i see some pics of the intro video, with heavy lags so i hardly can acces main menu to quit^^

When i got through inside the sub everything runs fine again, that only happens in the tower...any clue? Happens with both versions

My specs:
Phenom II 955 BE
Gforce 9800gt oc

I am sorry, but I don't know how to help you with this one. I have never had that happen to me, and no one has ever reported it before.

Are you sure that it is this mod that is causing it? Have you ran the game with only this installed?

Yes, i disabled all other mods and tried each of them. every time i activate the shadow mod this bug occurs
i dont know where those strange pics come from, but i may also be they just show up because of that heavy freeze i get. Maybe they are always in the background..who knows ;P
In my opinion the freeze is the main problem, from what i read here it doesnt seem to be related to the type of vga or sth else, but maybe you still got an idea what i could try, except updating drivers.
This mod looks so cool...now that i saw it i dont really want to play without it
