No that picture is not me, but I got errr, reprimanded for my actions during basic and had to do latrine cleaning instead of sleeping the liutenant had left a particularly oversized and fragrant log clogging one of the porceline gods. The gas mask was not helpful in anything else than limiting my field of view. We were issued identical masks to that in the pic.
Trust me, you dont want to do a 100m dash carrying yourbattle budy who is "wounded" and then do 60 pushups while wearing that monstrosity. |

I assume the daughter of a officer was involved in this story?

No, a disagreement with a fellow recruit with respect to him planing to go awol. There was a slight struggle, he fell, I tried to help him back up but the clumsy bugger broke his arm, haven't got a clue how that happened. My platoon commander thought I had crossed a line so got to clean the latrines for 3 nights in a row until you could see your reflection on every surface, even those that were not reflective.

Not in the armed forces it is not, officers are allways very literal minded. One of the thingssome of my other platoon mates fell for was asking for the right to smoke. In my native language there are a lot of ways to do this, but very few of those are literally correct, so once they asked if they could have a cigarette with a phrase that literaly means if they could pull a cigarete, so they got premission to pull a cigarette on a string through the barracs making train noises.

I train with a former Marine whose drill instructor (IIRC) used to make him step forward from the ranks and perform the "We represent the Lollipop Guild" song from The Wizard Of Oz. Complete with Munchkin voice, facial expressions, and little dance. Until he got it juuuuuuust right.
