Lets see, villain out for revenge? Star Trek II, Star Trek Insurrection, Star Trek Nemesis. Earth is in danger? Star Trek I, Star Trek IV, Star Trek First Contact, Star Trek Nemesis Time Travel: Star Trek IV, Star Trek Generations, Star Trek First Contact Quote:

![]() Speaking of the ship Nero blew up? WTF is wrong with her registry? 0514! Didn't someone tell them that when you write out numbers you don't include zeros before numbers greater than zero. It's not like we have not seen Federation Ships with three digit registries before! ![]() Quote:

![]() Yea that Paul McGillion... an actual Scotsman! Simon Pegg not a Scotsman... ![]() I guess the producers felt so bad they did give Paul a role. I think he is credited as "Guy in Hat" or something. At least he gets to tell Kirk to F off. Bruce Greenwood was also great in the movie, I would have rather seen the whole movie with him playing Pike commanding the Enterprise than this "New Kirk"... ![]() Ah you mean the lens flares they ripped off from Firefly? ![]() Oh not to mention people being blow in to space when the hull is breached... Firefly did it... |

I wasn't impressed with the new ST film. But they need to make money so anything goes today.

Neither was Jimmy Doohan.

If you went through the entire history of sci-fi I'm sure you would find that the ones quoted above have been used over and over again, sometimes to great affect and sometimes not. Mostly it depends on the skill of the storyteller(s), and assessing that in any particular case is always a subjective matter. To each his own. ![]() |

Ah but he was the master of dialect!
![]() He invented the Klingon language you know... ![]() And the character of Scotty was originally Irish... ![]() Edit: and while I'm mentioning Doohan trivia I should mention he was missing a finger. Shot off by a nervous Bren gunner on the beaches of Normandy. |

I have a friend who liked the new movie for one reason: He was tired of hearing the fans whine about all the times the new series and new movies monkeyed with the 'Canon'. He saw the changes in this one as being a big 'Up Yours!' from the producers to all of them. For him that made the whole thing worth it.
I watched the original series when it first aired, and despite all the changes I liked the new movie, especially the actor playing McCoy and the lines they gave him. I knew who he had to be from the first moment he complained about the transporters, and I nearly died when he gave himself his famous nickname..."She took everything but my bones." A side note: Like Simon Pegg or not, in this movie they gave him a weird little alien sidekick. I laughed with delight when I saw the actor's name: Deep Roy. For those of you who remember Tom Baker's Doctor Who, you might want to think of 'The Talons of Weng Chiang'. Deep Roy was Mr. Sin, the Peking Humunculus.

Guys like Ron Moore, Sternbach, the Okudas, Dan Curry were nowhere to be seen. I would have even welcomed Braga and Berman for this one (As much as fans like to bitch about those two they really did some good work at times, especially compared to JJA.) I'm sure Andre Bormanis was nowhere to be seen the set of that last movie... Quote:
