Default Mk 18-2

Hello
I wonder if there is a MOD to use the MK18-2 electric torpedoes put into service from August 1944.
In advance, thank you.

The only thing I know about it is that the Mark-18 came in two variants. Mod-1 and Mod-2. Mod-2 was introduced in 1945 and was faster than the Mod-1. I don't know the actual speed differences between the two so, the question is: Is the game version of the Mark-18 already based on Mod-2 or on the slower Mod-1?

Thinking its based on Mod-1 because it moves at 29 knts in game but remember reading books about later patrols and the author(usually former skippers) talking about 33 knot speed of the electric torpedos.

I can only find this link http://www.microworks.net/pacific/ar..._submarine.htm and it doesn't cite any source as to where they got their info from. Where are you guys getting your info from?

This was to be a good weapon.

But this does not say whether such a mod exists ...

Ah, that looks like the same source I read.

I looked it up in my SH1 manual and sure enough it was there. I have to say the more and more I get into SH4 and modding it, the more and more I see how much was left out or seemingly half-assed. To answer your question though, there is no mod that I know of that has the Mk 18 Mod 2 in it, just the Mod 1 as additional torpedoes can not be added (to the best of my knowledge).

never played SH 1, was not into subsims back then. From what I have heard though, what it lacked in certain areas it was not others and covered a lot of things Sh 4 should have. A Mark 18-2 that makes 40 knots would be great.

I found another source that, at least, references the Mark-18 Mods-1 & 2. It seems to be a credible source.

I would say the Naval Academy is a credible source.

Left our or half assed? In SH4? I don't believe it!

The sad truth is, the deeper you dig, the more apparent it is how awesome the game *could* have been when you see the unfinished fragments left behind from development. Things the devs started, but dropped.

Tell me about it. I've seen references to missiles in the game files since SH2! And just last night while trying to figure out how to launch 24 Trident II's from the Ohio I saw a reference to a Missile Submarine.

Interesting. Had there been attempts to include more detailed diving mechanics ? With trimming the boat, usage of compressed air, actual ballast readouts and so on ?
