Correct on all current classes of SSN. (Pressure hull only.)

Correct.

Why the wood venier? Because it weighs less than paint?
No, because in the US wood paneling is considered nice and relaxing thus is found in many homes. The reason its on subs is to make the crew feel at home.

Rickover’s rule concerning penetration of the reactor compartment hold in the Virginia class boats? Electric only.
According to ETR3(SS) there are four.

About 13.

These are not normal questions third man ...

If you would be so kind to reply ... Why do you inquire of these items of interest?

Hull penetrations?

Passageway clearence?

Imitation wood decor that covers the ugly truth of yellow tobaco stains?

Rickover rules?

Questions limited to SSN's?

Nothing untoward or sinister I assure you. Just idle curiosity, based on what I have read on the net and in books like 'Silent Chase', 'US Submarines since 1945' , http://www.ussdevilfish.com/images/gall12.htm , interior shots as seen here, http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...15314667632285, etc..

Thanks for asking.

PS Its not like I'm asking if the stators on the Virginia class boat's propulsor are pre or post flow.

That maybe true, but most if not all submariners are familiar with Mr. John Walker and his family. Sometimes we get a little nervous about people asking questions.

Well third man we don't want to run you off or anything ... lots of people know about submarines and things you are interested in, right here on subsim.

This is from four years ago about water jets: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=289528

How big was the gyro? What kind of question is that? I use to walk by it all the time back in nav land, but dog gone if I know how big it is.

I can tell you one thing though the electronic clock that made it all work was just a plug in item under the nav table. While kicking his legs one day the navigator accindently unplugs the sins clock. Talk about confusion ... we had to surface and take sightings to correct the time being off for a few minutes. I reckon thats unclassified by now forty years later lol

Got any unclassified sea stories for us ETR3 (SS)

I think I got one or two.

Somewhere in the Pac, as always, I was sitting Helm when the CO walks into Control. He ask a few questions of the OOD then announced that the CO had the Conn. We were flankin it to somewhere so we had a bit of speed on and the Cap'n wanted to do some high speed maneuvers. So he orders a left full rudder, no course to come to just turning. Well he must of got tired of going left because then he ordered right full rudder. We went right for a while and then he brought us back to base course and turned the Conn back over to the OOD and left Control.

No sooner than the old man had left control, I hear snickering coming from the plot; the Quartermaster found something funny. I tell ya I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it my self. When I got off the helm I went over to the plot to see what was so funny. I look at the chart and here's this big penis complete with balls drawn on the chart that was our track. Only in the Navy!

Well everything I posted can be found on the Internet or in Books. ETR3(SS) posted a picture showing where he got his info.

According to a friend of mine who did errr... "Stuff" with "Things" in "Places" while in the USN if you can find it on the Internet its not OpSec.
